ynk-color.jpg    TEEN SUMMER READING AUCTION UPDATE!

Remember that the Auction is Friday, August 10 at 3pm!  Time to use your MarlBucks to earn some prizes!  I have two participants who wrote a review on the blog who (I don’t think?) have come in to play Deal or No Deal yet so remember to do so if you are one of them!

Also, a few people have asked what happens with their MarlBucks if they can’t make it to the Auction.  We will save some prizes for a Silent Auction where you can use your MarlBucks to bid on items here at the Library, after the live auction.  We will leave the bid sheets out for maybe two weeks or so.  But remember, alot of the good prizes like the iPod will be auctioned off AT the AUCTION that Friday ONLY.

There is still time to write some more reviews on the forms available here or online.  And if you are playing the Superhero Challenge (and reading this blog to make your librarian so very happy!) then here is a freebie:  #52 is Veridian.  Never heard of him. Hmmm.

Calling Teen Writers…

Coming to the Movies…

Check out this article from Publishers Weekly: (I love the Pullman trilogy and can not wait to see how they do it – I’m sure it won’t be as good but I’ll still go see it…)

***The latest Harry Potter movie may be in theaters now, but several other high-profile films based on children’s books are coming soon to the multiplex near you. Here we round up some of the online trailers available for viewing.

First up is The Dark Is Rising, based on Susan Cooper’s The Dark Is Rising sequence, which arrives on October 5 from Walden Media and 20th Century Fox. The screenplay is by John Hodge (who wrote the Trainspotting screen-
play); filming took place in Romania.
Philip Pullman’s many devotees will want to view the trailer for The Golden Compass, which has an all-star cast that includes Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig, and arrives December 7 from New Line. Attendees of the 2007 Cannes Film Festival were treated to a 10-minute preview—the one available online is a bit shorter.
It’s a holiday release for The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep, based on the novel by Dick King-Smith, whose Babe: The Gallant Pig famously made the jump to the big screen. Walden Media will release this family-friendly flick about a certain legendary Scottish sea creature on Christmas Day.
And the legion of readers who made bestsellers out of Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi’s series The Spiderwick Chronicles might enjoy a first look at the Grace siblings’ transition to the silver screen, scheduled for release next February from Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies, with Mean Girls and Freaky Friday director Mark Waters at the helm.

Teen Lit Trends…

I meant to post this the other day – as it seems, with the book and movie coming out, that some people will be wondering what to read when all HP is said and done.  And so, YALSA (the Young Adult Library Services division of the American Library Assoc) has an article you can read on Al’s Book Club page at the Today Show web page:

Let me know wht you think http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19035151/

Also, YALSA has started compiling a list of good summer reading books for teens – not ones mandatory for school. but just for fun.  You can find that still-evolving list at:
