EXAMPLE:
I just read Harlan Coben’s new one, The Woods, (an adult book, mind you) about four teenagers at summer camp who walked into the woods one night – two were found murdered and the other two were never? seen again. How’s that to kick off summer reading? I enjoyed the book – a good quick read, and I think he’s a level (or two) above Patterson for sure. -Eileen Washburn
My son (14) just read “The House of the Scorpion” by Nancy Farmer. He loved it and thought I should read it too. It’s a dark, at times disturbing, tale of a 14 year old boy who is the clone of the tyrannical leader of a country known as Opium set in the not-too-distant future. The book raises lots of interesting political and social questions so it’s “Good For You”, but is in actuality an engrossing read about one boy’s journey.
My daughter (12 years old) and I just read “Jade Green” by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor. My daughter found it a little too creepy, but I thought it was an excellent ghost story. A15 year old orphan comes to live in the house of her uncle and is forbidden to bring anything green into the house. But she does and you’ll see what happens. It’s a gothic ghost story and sure to give you the creeps. Just don’t read it at night.
I just read “Behind the Curtain” by Peter Abrahams. It was the sequal to “Down the Rabbit Hole” and part of the “Echo Falls Series”. I really enjoyed it and couldn’t put it down! I finished it in two days flat! It was a longer book but it was mysterious and suspenseful! It is about a girl, Ingrid, who finds that her brother is getting extremely strong along with acne on his back. She finds that this is a sign of steroids. Also, a troublemaker is starting to visit Ty, her brother, and Ty is being extremely friendly with his crowd who he doesn’t really hang out with. In the story Ingrid finds out about the former arguments, deaths, and schemes that could lead to the end of her grandfather’s peaceful farm and lead Ty to prison. She ends up in the trunk of a car and when she escapes, will anyone believe her stories or her attempts to make happiness. In this mystery you will caught with the mysteries and become as curious as Ingrid doubting every move she makes. It’s REALLY GOOD! I think the entire series is great!
I just read “What My Mother Doesn’t Know..” by Sonya Sones. If you’re bored with the usual paragraph after paragraph way of reading a book, this is definitely different. It’s written in poetry, but it still tells a story. (When I say poetry I don’t mean “the sky is blue, the sun is yellow, my heart aches”, but that there are no sentences, and instead of paragraphs there are stanzas. Honestly if you don’t feel like really want to have to commit to the book week after week, you’ll be reading this and then you suddenly realize that your half way done with the book. I am now hooked on Sonya’s books, and ever since i finished the “ttyl” series i thought i wouldn’t find another book that i really enjoyed.. but what do you know.
I recently read “breaking the boundaries of time and space”(a biography on Stephen Hawking. This book was a vey great book, I would give it about 4 stars. It was about a boy named Stephen Hawking who eventually becomes diagnosed with Lou Gehrigs’s disease and is predicted to die before the age of 25. Stephen then finds himself interested in the science of Cosmology, and eventually contributes a lot of information. For example, he studied gravity and the beginning of the universe. He continued to make great achievements even as his ddisease slowly started to creep up and disable his body.
i Just Finnished Gossimer, and it was about creatures (Dream givers) working hard on keeping a boy named Jhon safe from hordes. (nightmares) A young dream giver named littlest one, and her mentor, thin elderly, train hard for the hord attack, and they split up, working hard on strengthening their victems. But will Littelest one’s power be enough to save John and bring her safley back to the attic where she was supposed to meet thin elderly?
