“Don’t Bug Me” Wraps Up

(Ceili and her new $85 MarlBucks iPod!)

As we say goodbye to summer, I want to thank everyone who participated in our Teen Summer Reading Program.  We are always looking for ways to improve, so feel free to send me your comments for next year.  We will defintely have a way next time for you to use your unused MarlBucks – but we would like to continue with the format of “do as much or as little on your own time”.  Any ideas are always welcome!

So on to the results – the following people won items in the Silent Auction:

Jackie Aniolek

Robert Bates

Brittany Glynn

Dino Marino

Emma McGuinness

Jake Ostrowski

Ceili Peng

If you would like to know the answers to the “I Spy Marlborough” game or the survivor of “RML Survivor”, go to those pages on this blog and I will post them there shortly.  Thanks again!

Teen Silent Auction Begins: get your MarlBucks ready!

Silent Auction bid sheets are now out and located in the Teen area of the Library near the Summer Reading books.  There are 14 items up for bid including lots of gift cards and an iPod Shuffle.  The Auction will close on Friday, Aug 15 at 3pm.  Now’s the time to use the MarlBucks you’ve been collecting all summer and get something for them!  You can still hand in (or blog) book reviews for $1; hand in your I Spy sheet for Bucks and also check to see who was the last victim on the RML Survivor page.  But make sure you get your Bucks in time to bid on some of the great Auction items!!!  The person with the highest bid on each item at the close of Auction will win the item – provided they have enough official MarlBucks!!!  Ask at the desk for details and if you have any questions.

R U Getting Your MarlBucks???

For everyone who’s participating in the Teen Summer Reading Program – here are some tips for playing (sorry for any confusion!)

If you write a Book Review on the yellow form and go to put it in the box at the desk, make sure you ask a staff person for your MarlBuck!  We are not keeping track for you – you should receive the MarlBuck right then and there.

If you post online, I am keeping track if you are owed one for the next time you come in.

The Adult/Teen program is really a different thing altogether – it was intended for the adults as we have done in past summers but some teens prefer to just fill out the slip with the book they’ve read and be entered into the weekly drawing for a prize.  There is a seperate box on the desk for that – you will NOT earn MarlBucks for those, but you can participate in both programs.  For example, read Snakehead, then fill out the Adult/Teen form and put in box to win the weekly prize.  Also fill out the Teen Review form, put in different box and ask for your MarlBuck!

OTHER NOTES:

Make Soda- Can Tab Bracelets (and earn $20 MarlBucks!)  Monday, July 21 @ 4pm

If your family is participating in the Family Create-A-Bug, all bugs are due by Fri, August 1

Looking for a Good Read?

If you’re in between required summer reading, and just want to read something for fun, come and check out some of the new young adult fiction that came in just yesterday!  (Ok, you have to give us a couple days to process them first!)  You can see some of the titles on the NEW FICTION page.

And just a reminder, you can still sign-up for the Teen Summer Reading Program if you haven’t yet.  Tell your friends too.  We’ve gotten a great response this year and have really increased our numbers of teens signing-up from 2007 – THANKS!

I’m back from vacation and ready to be bugged!

hello all!

I am just giving a quick update as I am back from vacation and excited to see that we have so many teens signed up for our fun “Don’t Bug Me @ the Library” Teen summer reading program.  Game sheets for ‘I Spy Marlborough’ are available on this blog as a pdf document, or you can get a paper copy at the Library.

Game sheets for “RML Survivor’ are now available at the Library as well. There is also a new victim posted as of today, and for those of you who started late, I left the first victim up for a while longer (also because I was away on vacation and felt bad having missed Fridays update til today)

ALSO, don’t forget, Flip-Flop fun is tonite at 6pm here at RML – bring a cheap new pair or old pair of flip-flops to decorate – we will supply all the decorations and adornments – you bring a pair that fits you – or a pair to give as a cool gift to someone (but you should know their shoe size first, he he)

Summer Programs Have Begun!

Registration for our summer reading programs has begun at RML – stop in and sign-up for Don’t Bug Me @ the Library!, our teen summer reading program.  It’s fun and allows you to do as much as you want – earn MarlBucks and win some cool prizes at the Silent Auction.  If you have any questions, you can email me, Ms Eileen @ ewashburn@richmondlibrary.info or call the Library at 295-6210.

SAT Prep Program: a.k.a. sacrifice a Saturday for your education!

For HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS -In case you didn’t receive a little flyer at school…

The Richmond Library is once again sponsoring a SAT Prep program with the Princeton Review on Saturday, 1/26.  It’s just like the real deal, but the scores will only be seen by you.  You take an actual test under real conditions at Marlborough Elementary School in the Media Center, 9am-1pm.

You will get your scores back at the follow-up session on Wednesday, 2/13 from 6:30 to 8pm or so, at the Marlborough Senior Center.  This workshop is for students and parents, and an instructor from the Princeton Review will be on hand to discuss invaluable test-taking strategies that I GUARANTEE YOU DO NOT KNOW ABOUT, and that can only get your scores UP!  (Seriously, you need to know this stuff)

Call and register at 295-6210 by Friday 1/11

Best Books for Teens: Holiday Gift Giving!

presents.jpg  Ok, so you probably want someone else to buy you a gift this holiday season, but here’s a list of great teen books to give as gifts anyway – so either pass the list on to the gift-buyer in your family, or check out the titles to see if there’s anything you might like!  Follow this link and then download the Teen pdf file.
